About Our Committees
CHPC Committees Overview
How are CHPC Committees Structured?
All CHPC members are required to participate in at least one committee and attend its meetings. Each committee is led by a CHPC member, and meetings are open to public participants, encouraging broad input and collaboration.
When Do CHPC Committees Meet?
CHPC committees meet on the third Wednesday of the month, on the same day as the CHPC general meeting. Committees meet 8-10 times a year, with sessions held either in the morning or afternoon, depending on the committee’s schedule.
What Are Committee Meetings Like?
Committee meetings typically last 60 to 90 minutes and are chaired by a CHPC member. A designated time-keeper helps manage the discussion. The meeting agenda includes:
-
- Welcome and introductory comments from the chair (including meeting etiquette)
- Review of prior meeting notes
- Discussion of committee-specific topics
- New business
- Feedback and adjournment
What Work Does Each Committee Do?
Each committee is tasked with a specific responsibility outlined in its charge. The CHPC chairpersons, along with input from the Executive Committee, develop annual work plans for each committee. These work plans are aligned with Connecticut’s Integrated HIV Prevention and Care Plan, with monthly committee meeting agendas breaking the work down into actionable tasks.
How Are Decisions Made in Committees?
CHPC committees use a consensus process for decision-making, ensuring that all participants, including public attendees, can voice their opinions. Committees do not vote; instead, they work toward building a consensus. The committee chairperson facilitates discussions, identifies consensus opinions, and acknowledges differing perspectives. Recommendations are forwarded to the Executive Committee or CHPC for formal voting.
Becoming a Committee Chairperson
Committee chairs must be CHPC members and complete an application process. The Executive Committee reviews applicants and selects the best fit. Committee chairs are required to attend Executive Committee meetings, which take place after CHPC meetings, and must be available to work with committee staff between meetings.
